Irish pop artist LYRA makes a powerful and bold statement with her debut album. The self-titled release follows the songwriter over the past few years, showcasing the rollercoaster of emotions she felt during past relationships, breakups, and hookups, as well as everything in between. Through 14 dark pop anthems, we get to know LYRA on a personal level, connecting with her through her painfully honest and lighthearted lyrics.
The songwriter shares, “My music is all about me, my life, and my ex! It’s a journey through heartbreak, grief, anger, feeling unlovable, bottomless brunches, a one-night stand, finding my Drogo, releasing my inner queen again, and dancing like nobody’s watching. I wanted it to be a way that the listeners can get to know me from the only way I feel most comfortable expressing myself – music.”
The album features songs such as “America” which details a time when LYRA went to Los Angeles to write some songs for the album. As she embarked on a spontaneous and passionate fling, the artist chanted: “I left my heart in America.” She explains, “I was very much in my single phase. I met a guy there and had a whirlwind holiday romance like it was out of the movies. It’s a nice reminder of how carefree I felt.” Her ethereal vocals soar over iridescent synths and a throbbing beat, creating the perfect introduction to the album and setting the bar for what is yet to come.
