16 New Songs Out Today


So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

ORVILLE PECK & WILLIE NELSON – “COWBOYS ARE FREQUENTLY SECRETLY FOND OF EACH OTHER” (NED SUBLETTE COVER)

Orville Peck’s first single for Warner Records is this cover of Ned Sublette’s Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other” that features Willie Nelson. It’s the lead single from his new album of duets, Stampede, which will be out later this year.

DOLLY PARTON – “SOUTHERN ACCENTS” (TOM PETTY COVER)

Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty is out on June 21 via Big Machine Records in partnership with the Tom Petty Estate, and Dolly Parton has shared her rendition of “Southern Accents” from it. “I was fortunate enough to get to know Tom over the years,” she says. “He’s such an iconic artist and important songwriter. I’m so honored to be a part of this special album and to be able to share my version of one of Tom’s best songs, ‘Southern Accent.’”

ROME STREETZ – “POCKET FULL OF BEANS” (REMIX ft. FLATBUSH ZOMBIES’ MEECHY DARKO & ZOMBIE JUICE)

Rome Streetz taps 2/3 of Flatbush Zombies to breathe new life into “Pocket Full of Beans” from his recent Noise Kandy 5 project. “Meech and Jewice are the homies, always wanted to do something with them and felt like this joint was perfect for them to just splash on,” he says.

CHAPPELL ROAN – “GOOD LUCK, BABE!”

Of her new synth-pop banger, Chappell Roan says, “I needed to write a song about a common situationship within queer relationships — where someone is struggling with coming to terms with themselves. It’s a song about wishing well to someone who is avoidant of their true feelings”

ELECTRIC PRESS – “POISON BEAUTY”

UK hardcore band Electric Press will release their debut LP Blinded By Ignorance And Somewhat Hysterical on May 17 via TNSrecords, and here’s the heavy, riffy lead single.

WARDRUNA – “HERTAN”

Norwegian dark folk band Wardruna shares a new song, of which vocalist Einar Selvik says: “’Hertan’ is the proto-Scandinavian word for “heart” and that is exactly what we explore in this song and film. The duality of the heart with the rhythm, flow and pulse we can see, hear, and feel in nature and in all forms of life – and the more abstract idea of the heart, The rudder on the ship of emotions, our decisions, and our true desires.”

EYEWASH – “BOUND”

Pittsburgh grungegazers Eyewash (members of Shin Guard/Hazing Over) follow last year’s self-titled EP with the heavy/beautiful “Bound.”

GUPPY – “AMERICAN COWBOY”

Guppy have announced a new album, Something Is Happening…, due May 17 via Lauren Records, and new single “American Cowboy” has some whimsical anti-folk vibes.

LOYAL TO THE GRAVE – “STRIVING HIGHER”

Japanese hardcore band Loyal To The Grave have announced their first release in seven years, the Rectitude EP, due May 17 via Triple B Records worldwide and Retribute Records in Japan. The EP was recorded by Devu and mixed by Taylor Young, and the first taste is the tough, heavy “Striving Higher.”

HALF PAST TWO – “CURSE THE UNIVERSE”

Half Past Two offer up another mix of driving pop punk and upbeat ska from their upcoming LP for Bad Time Records, Talk Is Killing Me.

DOJA CAT – “URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!” (ft. A$AP ROCKY)

Doja Cat has released a deluxe edition of Scarlet with seven new songs, including this collab with A$AP Rocky.

CARLIE HANSON – “NUTSHELL” (ALICE IN CHAINS COVER)

Singer Carlie Hanson has paid tribute to the late Layne Staley with this cover of Alice in Chain’s “Nutshell.” “I grew up listening to all kinds of sick ass music. I remember my mom and sister blasting Alice In Chains on long drives when I was like 10,” Carlie says. “Not up until recently did I fall down a rabbit-hole of everything they have out there. Their MTV Unplugged stunned me. I was so blown away and inspired to cover ‘Nutshell’ in remembrance of Layne and Kurt. I want to thank Layne’s sweet momma for allowing this to happen. I’m excited for the world to hear my lil version.”

THE AVETT BROTHERS – “COUNTRY KID”

The Avett Brothers’ new self-titled album is out next month, and the second single is the country-fried “Country Kid.”

INTO IT. OVER IT. – “A TRIP AROUND THE SUN”

J. COLE – “7 MINUTE DRILL” (KENDRICK LAMAR DISS)

Kendrick Lamar made headlines last month when he dissed Drake and J. Cole in his verse on “Like That” from the new Future & Metro Boomin album WE DON’T TRUST YOU, and now Cole has responded on his own surprise new album Might Delete Later. Read more here.
